Côte d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Ouattara has won a fourth term, claiming a decisive 89.77% of the vote in the October 25, 2025 presidential election. This victory comes after his main rivals were disqualified from running, leaving Ouattara as the clear frontrunner.

Nearly nine million Ivorians were eligible to vote in the election, which took place amid heightened security and tensions across the country. Early results had already suggested Ouattara’s dominance, with turnout particularly strong in his northern strongholds. In contrast, some southern regions and Abidjan’s economic centers saw far fewer voters at the polls.

Jean-Louis Billon, a former commerce minister, finished second with just over 3% of the vote, while former first lady Simone Gbagbo trailed with 2.4%. Both candidates lacked the support and resources to challenge Ouattara, making the outcome largely predictable. The official turnout was reported at around 50%, similar to the previous 2020 election.

The opposition has criticized the results, questioning their legitimacy and calling for new elections. Despite the low turnout in some areas, the election passed without major incidents on voting day, marking one of the calmer presidential contests in recent years.

Alassane Ouattara fourth term continues the president’s long-standing leadership in Ivory Coast, following his first election in 2010 after a disputed vote against former President Laurent Gbagbo. Since taking office, Ouattara has overseen economic recovery and infrastructure development, though critics accuse him of consolidating power and limiting opposition activity.

With his fourth term, Ouattara is expected to lead Ivory Coast until 2030, maintaining stability in the world’s top cocoa-producing nation while addressing ongoing challenges like youth unemployment and poverty. The election demonstrates Ouattara’s enduring influence and the strong role he continues to play in Ivorian politics.
