The case involving Robert Mugabe’s Son has attracted international attention after Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe was formally charged with attempted murder in South Africa. Authorities in Johannesburg confirmed that Robert Mugabe’s Son was arrested following a shooting incident at a private residence in one of the city’s upscale suburbs.
According to police reports, a 23-year-old man, believed to be a gardener working at the property, was shot and seriously injured. The victim was rushed to hospital and remains in critical condition. Investigators say they recovered spent bullet cartridges at the scene, but the firearm allegedly used in the incident has not yet been found.
Robert Mugabe’s Son, whose father was Robert Mugabe, was taken into custody along with another man described as his associate. Prosecutors confirmed that both suspects are facing charges of attempted murder. They also face an additional charge of defeating the ends of justice, which relates to the missing weapon.
Police officials stated that the suspects did not fully cooperate when officers arrived at the scene. Authorities say investigations are still ongoing, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
The court has postponed the matter to allow for further investigation and a formal bail application. Robert Mugabe’s Son is expected to appear before a magistrate’s court in Johannesburg as legal proceedings continue.
Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe is the youngest child of the late Zimbabwean leader and his second wife, Grace Mugabe. The former president ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years before being removed from office in 2017. He later passed away in 2019. Over the years, members of the Mugabe family have faced various legal controversies both in Zimbabwe and abroad.
