The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has stopped the production of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix due to growing safety issues. The suspension came after multiple consumer complaints and a detailed investigation of Nutrifoods Ghana Limited’s production facility.
According to the FDA, the factory showed serious problems including poorly maintained equipment and weak quality control systems. These issues raised major concerns about product safety, especially in the canned versions and specific pouch sizes like the 380g and 1.05kg. The investigation revealed that faulty sealing led to bloated packages and even mold growth, which are clear signs of contamination.
As part of the action, the FDA ordered the removal of all canned Tasty Tom tomato mix products and affected pouch batches from the market. These tomato mix safety issues put consumers at risk, prompting urgent action. Consumers are strongly advised to return the products and report any health effects they may have experienced. Retailers and distributors are also expected to fully support the recall process.

This is not the first time Nutrifoods has come under scrutiny. The company had already been banned from producing the tomato mix in January 2025. The FDA is now investigating whether regulatory lapses allowed the company to resume production despite the earlier ban. In a statement, the FDA said it is reviewing its internal processes. If any failure in oversight is found, it will take firm action to restore public trust.
Nutrifoods has agreed to recall products tied to the safety issues. A voluntary recall was even initiated earlier on August 1, 2025, covering additional canned sizes such as 210g and 400g. The company apologized to consumers and promised to strengthen its safety protocols. It expressed regret for the inconvenience and assured the public that it remains committed to meeting all food safety standards.
Consumers can return affected products to the company’s Tema office or through authorized distributors. Nutrifoods can also be contacted via 050 538 4429 or tastytom.GH@olamnet.com.
The FDA is urging everyone including consumers, shop owners, and suppliers to follow the recall directive strictly. The Tasty Tom tomato mix safety issues highlight the importance of strong food safety regulations and compliance. The Authority concluded that protecting public health is its top priority and it will continue to enforce strict standards to ensure food safety in Ghana.
