A tragic incident has occurred at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra, where six people lost their lives and several others were injured during the Ghana Armed Forces 2025/2026 recruitment exercise on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
According to a statement issued by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director-General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, the stampede happened around 6:20 a.m. before the official start of the recruitment screening. Thousands of hopeful applicants reportedly rushed the gates, breaking security barriers and causing panic.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the sudden surge of applicants led to chaos, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities. The injured victims were taken to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra for emergency treatment, while the Ghana Armed Forces has begun contacting families of the deceased.
“The Ghana Armed Forces extends its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a swift recovery to those injured,” the official statement said.
Security forces have since sealed off the El-Wak Stadium area to restore order and assist medical teams. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and comply with recruitment guidelines to prevent such tragedies in the future.
