Hip-hop legend Sean Diddy Combs prison sentence has shocked fans and the global music industry after he was handed just over four years in prison for prostitution-related crimes. The court ruling, which took place in New York, brought an emotional end to a long legal battle that revealed disturbing details about the star’s past behavior.

Combs, 55, apologized in court to his victims, including his ex-girlfriends Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and another woman known as “Jane.” The judge sentenced him to 50 months in prison, a $500,000 fine, and five years of supervised release after serving his time.

During the hearing, Sean Diddy Combs tearfully told the court that his “actions were disgusting, shameful, and sick,” admitting that he “got lost in excess and ego.” He also apologized to his children and mother, saying, “They deserved better.”

Prosecutors had pushed for a harsher punishment of 11 years, arguing that Combs’ past acts of domestic violence and exploitation showed a consistent pattern of abuse. They claimed he used his power and fame to control and harm his former partners through physical and emotional abuse.

However, defense lawyers described Sean Diddy Combs as a changed man who had spent 13 months in jail and was now deeply remorseful. His attorney, Nicole Westmoreland, praised him as an inspiration to many young Black entrepreneurs, saying he had shown genuine transformation.

Combs’ children also spoke in court, with some breaking down in tears as they asked the judge for mercy. One of his sons, Quincy Brown, said, “In front of you and in front of us is a changed man. He has evolved — something we haven’t seen in 15 years.”

Despite the emotional appeals, Judge Arun Subramanian said a strong message needed to be sent. “You abused women physically, emotionally, and psychologically,” the judge said. “You had the money and the power to keep it going — this was subjugation.”

The Sean Diddy Combs prison sentence comes after a high-profile two-month trial where prosecutors accused him of running a criminal enterprise involving prostitution and sexual exploitation. Although he was acquitted of the most serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges, he was found guilty of transporting women for prostitution.

Combs will receive credit for the 13 months already served and is expected to spend about three more years in prison. His legal team plans to appeal the decision, saying the sentence was too harsh compared to the charges.

Outside the courtroom, victims’ lawyers said the verdict was a step toward justice for those affected by Combs’ actions. “Nothing can undo the trauma,” said attorney Doug Wigdor, “but the prison sentence recognizes the impact of his serious offenses.”

Combs still faces more than 50 civil lawsuits from individuals accusing him of sexual abuse and misconduct, all of which he continues to deny.
