Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has confirmed that passport application centres in all regions of Ghana by December 2025 will become a reality. He explained that seven regions currently without centres will soon get access, starting with Bolgatanga this month.

The initiative forms part of government’s plan to decentralise passport services and make the process easier for citizens across the country. Ablakwa made this promise while presenting diplomatic passports to five respected Ghanaians — travel vlogger Wode Maya, Grammy nominee Rocky Dawuni, broadcaster Anita Erskine, artist Ibrahim Mahama, and entrepreneur Dentaa Amoateng MBE.

According to the Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reformed passport services with faster processing and courier delivery. Many applicants are now receiving their passports in record time, without the stress of travelling long distances to collection centres.

Ablakwa emphasized that the reforms are also addressing years of exploitation by middlemen who charged desperate applicants extra fees. The new system, supported by modern chip-embedded passports, aims to protect applicants from fraud while ensuring nationwide access.

Currently, Ghana has 13 operational passport centres across nine regions. With the expansion, all regions will have their own centre by December 2025, ending the struggle of residents who have had to travel far just to apply.

The rollout of passport application centres in all regions of Ghana by December 2025 is expected to transform service delivery and bring convenience to thousands of citizens. Ablakwa’s announcement signals the government’s commitment to improve accessibility and efficiency ahead of the December deadline.
