The Obuasi Municipal Assembly, led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has taken a strong stand against illegal mining in the municipality. In a recent inspection, the MCE and her team visited several illegal mining sites to assess the extent of environmental damage caused by the activities of illegal miners.
During the visit, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin expressed deep concern about the destruction of the area’s natural resources. The MCE’s frustration grew when the team discovered a bridge where water had been deliberately diverted to support illegal mining activities. She noted that Obuasi once had clean and beautiful streams, but many have now been polluted or diverted due to illegal mining operations.
This latest action shows the Assembly’s firm commitment to restoring and protecting Obuasi’s environment and water bodies from further destruction. We hope the Municipal Assembly intensifies its fight against illegal mining activities that are destroying the environment.
