A tragic accident at Konongo has left five people feared dead and eleven others injured after a Sprinter bus reportedly crashed into a parked tipper truck on the Kumasi–Accra Highway near Atwedie.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, October 25, 2025. The Sprinter bus, with registration number GR 6626-22, was negotiating a bend when it suddenly came upon a stationary tipper truck parked on the roadside. The driver lost control, and the bus rammed into the truck, causing a severe collision.

One eyewitness described the Konongo accident as horrifying, saying that two passengers seated at the front were trapped in the mangled vehicle. It reportedly took firefighters nearly two hours to rescue them from the wreckage.
“Although officials have not confirmed the exact number of casualties, I fear the five people I saw may not survive,” the witness said, recalling the terrifying moments after the crash.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and other emergency teams arrived promptly to assist with the rescue operation. The injured passengers have been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while police officers were deployed to manage traffic and ensure the removal of the wrecked vehicles from the road.
