AngloGold Ashanti Ghana has officially commissioned a GHC8.4 Million Robotics Centre at Obuasi Senior High Technical School, a major step toward promoting science and technology education in Obuasi and its surrounding areas. The advanced facility is part of the company’s 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP), which focuses on preparing young people with the digital and technical skills needed for the future.

The newly opened centre includes a robotics lab, an Arduino lab, a general-purpose laboratory, and an exhibition space. Designed to encourage innovation and creative thinking, it aims to turn learners into future inventors, engineers, and problem solvers. The GHC8.4 Million Robotics Centre at Obuasi Senior High Technical School Launched by AngloGold Ashanti is already being recognized as one of the most modern educational facilities in the Ashanti Region.

At the launch event, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi West, Faustilove Appiah Kanin, described the centre as a “gateway to innovation and problem solving.” She praised the investment as a bold move to equip students with practical knowledge in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

Samuel Boakye Pobee, Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti Ghana, highlighted the company’s shift from just mining resources to investing in human capital. He noted that the GHC8.4 Million Robotics Centre at Obuasi Senior High Technical School launched by AngloGold Ashanti reflects the company’s long-term vision to make Obuasi a center for progress, learning, and sustainable development.

According to Mr. Pobee, the facility will allow schools in the municipality to form robotics clubs, organize competitions, and nurture young talents in engineering and coding. The centre is open not only to Obuasi Sec-Tech students but also to neighboring schools in and around the district.

The Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Dr. William Amankrah Appiah, also praised the initiative, saying the facility would bridge the gap between theory and hands-on experience. He encouraged students and teachers to use the centre actively, warning against letting it sit unused.

The traditional leadership of the area, represented by Nana Osei Kwame of the Edubiase Traditional Council, expressed gratitude for what they see as a meaningful contribution to community development.

With this launch, the GHC8.4 Million Robotics Centre at Obuasi Senior High Technical School marks a turning point for STEM education in the area. By providing access to advanced learning tools and practical training environments, the centre is expected to inspire the next generation of innovators, not just in Obuasi but across the entire Ashanti Region.

This strategic educational project confirms AngloGold Ashanti’s commitment to responsible mining by empowering the people who live above the resources. More than just infrastructure, it is an investment in opportunity, talent, and Ghana’s future.
