The Ghana Police Service has announced that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has rescued 57 Nigerian nationals from a human trafficking syndicate connected to cybercrime in Ghana. The operation took place at Adom Estates, Community 25, in Tema, where five suspects were arrested for allegedly luring and exploiting the victims.
The CID identified the suspects as Joel Nosa, Collins Rotimi, Shadrack Lulu, Austin Amahuaro, and John Uloko. They reportedly invited young Nigerians to Ghana with false promises of employment and education, only to force them into illegal online scams and digital fraud upon arrival. This operation highlights the growing cases of cybercrime in Ghana linked to human trafficking networks.

Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, the Public Relations Officer of the CID, confirmed in a statement that the police recovered 77 laptops, 38 mobile phones, two vehicles, three television sets, and several other internet-enabled devices suspected to have been used for the criminal operations. The seized items are now being examined for evidence as part of ongoing investigations.
The rescued victims, aged between 18 and 26, are currently receiving care and psychological support. The five suspects are in police custody assisting with further investigations. According to the CID, the rescue marks another important step in Ghana’s ongoing fight against cybercrime in Ghana and human trafficking activities targeting vulnerable youths across West Africa.
The police urged the public, particularly young people, to be careful about job and scholarship offers they see online. They warned that many of these offers are used by criminal groups to lure victims into forced cyber operations or other illegal work.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its strong commitment to tackling cybercrime in Ghana and related human trafficking crimes. The CID encouraged citizens to report any suspicious recruitment, employment, or travel offers that appear too good to be true.
The operation that led to the rescue of 57 Nigerians and the arrest of five suspects shows the dedication of the Ghana Police to eliminate cybercrime in Ghana and protect both locals and foreigners from digital exploitation.
