A devastating fire at the Suame Post Office Market in Kumasi has destroyed more than 300 shops, leaving traders in shock and despair. The blaze broke out late Tuesday night, August 26, 2025, around 11 p.m., and spread rapidly after over 30 gas cylinders exploded, fueling the inferno.

Witnesses say the fire at the Suame Post Office Market in Kumasi started suddenly and was difficult to control. Traders and residents tried desperately to fight the flames, but the explosions made the blaze spread faster. Unfortunately, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was reported to have arrived late, and by the time fire engines reached the scene, a large section of the market had already been destroyed.
Although no casualties have been recorded so far, the fire at the Suame Post Office Market in Kumasi has left hundreds of traders counting their losses. Shops and goods worth millions of cedis were completely destroyed. Many victims watched helplessly as their livelihoods were reduced to ashes.
The exact cause of the fire at the market is not yet known, but investigations are underway. Meanwhile, residents and traders are urging authorities to improve fire safety systems and ensure faster response from the fire service to prevent such massive destruction in the future.
