Political activist and medical doctor Dr Arthur Kennedy says former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo must answer important questions about the Ofori-Atta case. He believes the former Finance Minister did not act alone and that the president at the time must explain how the alleged wrongdoing happened.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Dr Kennedy said Ken Ofori-Atta reported directly to the president, so it is necessary to ask what Akufo-Addo did to prevent the alleged corruption. He stressed that real accountability must include both the appointee and the leader who appointed him.
“If we are talking about the wrongs of Ken Ofori-Atta, we must also ask what the former president was doing while these actions were taking place,” he said. “Akufo-Addo has a moral duty to explain his role.”
Ken Ofori-Atta is expected to face several corruption-related charges in court. But Dr Kennedy says the matter goes beyond one person. He argues that Ghana’s political system continues to suffer because governments often protect their officials instead of allowing fair investigations.
He warned that this behaviour weakens public trust, creates a culture of impunity, and makes justice difficult. According to him, Ghana must stop acting like each government is a temporary one-party system that shields its own members for eight years.
Dr Kennedy says the Ofori-Atta case should be a turning point for Ghana, pushing leaders to allow proper investigations and answer tough questions, no matter their political position.
