Ghana and Morocco have reached a historic visa-free travel agreement, making it easier for Ghanaians to visit Morocco without traditional visas. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the breakthrough, which replaces visa requirements with a simple online authorization system. Under the new rules, Ghanaians can obtain travel approval digitally within 24 hours without visiting an embassy.

The visa-free travel agreement was finalized during Minister Ablakwa’s two-day working visit to Morocco, where he met with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. The move is expected to boost tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges between the two nations. With direct flights already operating between Ghana and Morocco—and plans to increase frequency—the visa-free policy will make travel smoother and more affordable.
This development aligns with broader African integration goals, supporting the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the AU’s vision for more open borders. Morocco has also doubled its annual scholarships for Ghanaian students from 70 to 140 and pledged cooperation in agriculture, aviation training, and business partnerships.

The online travel authorization system is set to launch soon, with further details to be released by Ghana’s Foreign Ministry. This agreement marks a significant step in making African travel more accessible while strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Ghana and Morocco.
