The AngloGold Ashanti ETS Road Rehabilitation Project is set to bring much-needed relief to motorists, commuters, and residents in Obuasi. After years of neglect, this vital stretch of road will finally be restored using high-quality materials to improve safety, reduce congestion, enhance the overall quality of life, and revitalize the appearance of the Obuasi ETS Road.

Speaking on Aseda FM 92.3 Morning Show, Daniel Asare, the Community Infrastructure and Projects Superintendent for AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, emphasized the company’s commitment to infrastructure development in Obuasi. “We have many great projects lined up for Obuasi, but we believe it’s important to focus on the most pressing needs first. The Obuasi ETS Road is one of those,” he said.

The Obuasi ETS Road has long been a source of frustration for drivers and pedestrians due to heavy traffic, dust pollution, and a high risk of accidents. As part of their Socio-Economic Development Plan, AngloGold Ashanti has taken the initiative to fix the road and address these concerns.

According to Daniel Asare, the ETS Road is heavily trafficked by small cars, heavy trucks, and mining equipment. That’s why AngloGold Ashanti has chosen to use 50 MPa Interlocking Pavement blocks, known for their superior strength and long-lasting quality. These blocks are made with high-strength concrete that has a compressive strength of 50 megapascals (MPa), making them ideal for heavy-duty roads.

The AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi ETS Road project not only focuses on durability but also on aesthetics and symbolism. The company plans to beautify the surrounding area by decorating landmarks, such as the famous gold miner statue at one of the ETS roundabouts. Road markings and other design elements will also be added to enhance the visual appeal and cultural significance of the location.

Samuel Amoah, Quantity Surveyor for Urban Roads in Obuasi, also appeared on the show to discuss the technical aspects of the project. He confirmed that the existing asphalt has severely weakened over time due to congestion and water damage. After several planning meetings, Urban Roads and AngloGold Ashanti agreed that 50 MPa pavement is the best solution for long-term durability and minimal maintenance.

Traffic control during construction is also a key part of the plan. Measures are being put in place to manage vehicle flow and ensure minimal disruption as the road is being rehabilitated.

The AngloGold Ashanti ETS Road rehabilitation reflects the company’s core values of Safety, Respect, Integrity, Sustainability, Excellence, and Collaboration. It is a major step toward improving infrastructure and promoting sustainable development in Obuasi.
