Former Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) Managing Director, Edwin Provencal, was arrested by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) on Monday, November 10, 2025. The detention occurred at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) while Edwin Provencal was preparing to travel to Maputo, Mozambique.

Reports indicate that Edwin Provencal had been placed on a stop list on October 8, 2025, though he was reportedly unaware before attempting to leave the country. Authorities have not yet revealed the specific charges or details surrounding the arrest.

John Boadu, former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), confirmed the arrest during an interview on Accra-based Adom FM. He emphasized the need for due process, while affirming that individuals found guilty of crimes should face justice.

“We in the NPP are not saying that when people are found culpable in a crime, they shouldn’t face the law. But due process must be followed,” Boadu stated. He stressed that alleged financial misconduct by individuals should not be attributed to the party.

The arrest coincides with scrutiny over the Gold-for-Oil program, an initiative aimed at stabilizing fuel prices through Ghana’s gold reserves. The program came under criticism for alleged financial mismanagement during Edwin Provencal’s leadership.

BOST, Ghana’s state-owned fuel storage and transportation company, plays a critical role in the country’s energy security. The arrest of Edwin Provencal brings renewed attention to governance and accountability in the energy sector.

EOCO, tasked with investigating corruption, fraud, and organized crime, reportedly acted on intelligence that Edwin Provencal intended to leave Ghana. The airport arrest reflects the agency’s commitment to preventing potential flight risks during investigations.

Neither EOCO nor government officials have released further details on the allegations against Edwin Provencal, and his legal team has not made public statements. The case underscores ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in Ghana’s public institutions.
