Wode Maya, Rocky Dawuni, Anita Erskine, Ibrahim Mahama and Dentaa Receive Diplomatic Passports from Ghana’s Foreign Minister

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has presented diplomatic passports to Wode Maya, Rocky Dawuni, Anita Erskine, Ibrahim Mahama and Dentaa in recognition of their role in promoting Ghana’s image across the world.

The ceremony, held in Accra, highlighted how these five creatives and entrepreneurs have used their platforms to project Ghana internationally through art, music, media, entrepreneurship, and digital storytelling. Ablakwa explained that the decision was based on merit, stressing that there was no lobbying or political influence in selecting the recipients.

Ghana’s Foreign Minister has presented diplomatic passports to Wode Maya, Rocky Dawuni, Anita Erskine, Ibrahim Mahama and Dentaa, recognising their global influence in promoting Ghana’s image.

The beneficiaries include:

  • Wode Maya – A Ghanaian travel vlogger with a massive online following, known for showcasing Africa’s culture, destinations, and business opportunities.
  • Rocky Dawuni – A Grammy-nominated reggae musician and activist who uses music to promote peace, the environment, and African identity.
  • Anita Erskine – A broadcaster and media entrepreneur who champions youth development, women’s empowerment, and pan-African conversations.
  • Ibrahim Mahama – A contemporary visual artist whose large-scale installations have been exhibited worldwide.
  • Dentaa Amoateng MBE – A British-Ghanaian entrepreneur and founder of the GUBA Awards, celebrated for diaspora engagement and cultural advocacy.

Ablakwa explained that the move forms part of Ghana’s effort to support cultural ambassadors who face travel challenges, especially with visas, while carrying out work abroad. He stressed that diplomatic passports should not only be for politicians, chiefs, or diplomats but also for citizens who elevate Ghana’s profile globally.

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, also commended the honourees for their consistency and dedication in promoting Ghana. On behalf of the recipients, Anita Erskine expressed gratitude for the recognition and promised to continue representing Ghana with pride.

By granting diplomatic passports to these individuals, Ghana is broadening its diplomatic toolkit through cultural diplomacy, tourism promotion, trade advocacy, and international influence.
