The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in Obuasi West is taking strong action to tackle unemployment. PN Media had the opportunity to interview the Obuasi West Municipal Director of the YEA, Francis Nartey, who shared exciting plans focused on boosting youth employment in Obuasi by partnering directly with the private sector.

“Our main focus is now on private institutions, particularly mining companies and individual firms,” stated Director Nartey. He explained that the goal is to explore how these companies can contribute to job creation and how the YEA can support them in that effort. “It’s heartbreaking to see unemployed youth—it slows down progress. That’s why creating employment in Obuasi for the youth is our top priority.

The YEA understands that solving unemployment isn’t solely the government’s responsibility. “Private companies are vital for reducing the high rate of youth unemployment,” Nartey added. The agency plans to hold direct talks with mining companies, security firms, and other private sector players to explore how the YEA can support their growth and help them create more jobs.

Director Nartey confirmed strong support from the Obuasi West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the YEA’s initiatives. He emphasized the agency’s unwavering commitment to expanding youth employment opportunities in Obuasi. “Expect more positive developments from the government and our partnerships,” he concluded.
