The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has officially announced a 15% reduction in transport fares across all routes, effective May 25, 2025. This decision follows successful negotiations between transport operators and the Ministry of Transport in response to recent drops in fuel prices.”
Abbas Ibrahim Moro, Public Relations Officer of GPRTU, confirmed the development in an interview with 3News: “We have agreed with the Transport Minister to implement a 15% transport fare reduction starting May 25 to reflect current fuel price trends.”

Normally, transport operators adjust fares by one-third of any fuel price decrease. However, this time they approved a full 15% transport fare reduction to provide greater relief to commuters. The GPRTU also expects spare parts dealers to lower prices to support the transport sector.
The union issued a stern warning to operators who may resist the new fares. “The 15% reduction in transport fares is mandatory. Any driver who fails to comply will face penalties,” Moro emphasized.

This reduction comes as welcome news to millions of Ghanaians who rely on public transportation daily. With fuel prices down 18% recently, the 15% transport fare reduction will help ease the financial burden on households across the country.
