The Kunka Junction to Mile 9 road in Obuasi is currently in a terrible state, raising serious concerns for the health of residents and commuters. This road, which also leads to the Obuasi DVLA, has been left dusty and unpaved, creating a major public health hazard for everyone living nearby.
Before the 2024 elections, this road was regularly watered to keep the dust down. Construction even began, giving hope to the community. But after the elections, all efforts to complete the project have suddenly stopped.

Residents now deal with clouds of dust every day, which can cause breathing issues, eye irritation, and long-term respiratory problems, especially for children and the elderly.
The blame for the current state of the road is being shared between the sitting NDC government and the area’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Kwaku Kwarteng, who represents the NPP. Whether the fault lies at the national or local level, what matters most is the urgent need to resume and complete the construction of this road.
People living along the Kunka-Mile 9 stretch deserve better. The dust is not just an inconvenience, it’s a health crisis in the making. Government officials, contractors, and community leaders must come together to address this problem now, before more people are affected.
