The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Obuasi East, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu, has announced plans to transform the existing Obuasi East E-Block facility into a full-fledged nursing school. He shared this vision during an interview, emphasizing the economic and developmental benefits the Obuasi East Nursing Training will bring to the area.
According to the MCE, Obuasi already hosts multiple senior high schools—including Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Christ the King Senior High School, and private institutions like Artic and St. Margarette Senior High Schools. With this educational infrastructure already in place, the focus is now shifting toward diversifying opportunities through the Obuasi East Nursing Training College project.
Hon. Adzowu explained that introducing a nursing college in Obuasi East will not only meet growing educational demands but also stimulate the local economy. “Students from other regions of Ghana will move here for their education. They’ll rent houses, buy food, get their clothes sewn, and visit local barbershops,” he said. “These activities create jobs, increase sales, and put more money into the local economy.”
He further revealed that the transformation of the E-Block into a nursing training school is being carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Education. Site inspections will soon begin to assess the readiness of the location for development.
However, Hon. Adzowu expressed concern about unauthorized individuals attempting to acquire land within the proposed site. He warned that anyone occupying the area illegally will lose their property. “We are preserving this land for a project that benefits the entire city of Obuasi—not just a few individuals,” he stated firmly.
The Obuasi East Nursing Training College project is expected to bring long-term value to the region by improving education, attracting infrastructure, and generating employment. It represents a major step toward making Obuasi a hub for both learning and economic growth.
